Statewide test results: 96 percent of Lovejoy failed English language arts

Scores8

About 4 percent of Lovejoy Middle School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 96 percent of students failed, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Lovejoy Middle School English language scores, about 4 percent met expectations and none exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 7 percent approached expectations, while 48 percent partially met expectations and 41 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Lovejoy Middle School, which enrolled 23 students in 2018, fell below state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
