CITY OF EDWARDSVILLE: Request for Comments - Trail Connection for MCT Nature Trail
City of Edwardsville issued the following announcement on Dec. 27.
REQUEST FOR COMMENTS
The City of Edwardsville in cooperation with the Madison County Transit Agency are proposing to build a trail connecting the MCT Nature Trail on the west side of the underpass at IL Route 157 to the intersection of Center Grove Road and IL Route 157. This connector trail will be the south leg of a new four-way trail intersection.
In order to improve sight lines at this expanded intersection, the existing culvert sections of the underpass will be removed and a new end section will be installed to facilitate better sight lines. In order for this underpass work to take place, the existing nature trail will need to be closed for a few weeks to protect the bicycling and pedestrian traffic in this work zone.
A detour route will be established from the trail on the east side of the underpass and follow the sidewalk going south on the east side of IL Route 157 to the crosswalk at Center Grove road.
Users will use the crosswalk at Center Grove to cross IL Route 157 then proceed down the completed trail extension to the west side of the trail at the underpass.
Once the work is complete, the Nature Trail will be reopened with no further impediments.
This project is funded by an Illinois Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant. Construction is anticipated to start in the fall of 2019.
