Report: East St Louis spent $17,026 per student in 2017-18

Spending per pupil at East St Louis School District 189 is up 17.7 percent from five years ago, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2017-18 report card shows the Saint Clair County school district spent $14,462 per pupil in 2013-14. It spent $17,026 in 2017-18.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 6147 to 5718.

East St Louis's spending in 2017-18 was 27.7 percent higher than the state average of $13,337.
