The Granite City budget was $51.32 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $3,944 per household.

That's a decrease of 2.6 percent from 2016, when the city spent $52.70 million, or $4,049 per household.

Granite has 13,014 households and a population of 28,908.

Since 2001, the Granite City budget has grown by 50.7 percent, from $34.05 million. The city population has fallen 7.1 percent over the same period, from 31,101.

Salaries accounted for 31.4 percent of city spending in 2017. Granite property taxpayers paid $16.10 million for 230 full-time employees and 83 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 225 full-time employees and 27 part-time employees, and spent $15.34 million.
