Former state university employee Poteet paid in $44K to pension fund, could collect $668K in retirement

Former state university employee Kimberly Poteet, who retired in June 2018, saved $43,625 toward a pension over 17 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Poteet would collect as much as $668,267, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Metro East Sun.

The projection assumes Poteet received $14,046 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Poteet will have already received $58,762 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
