Former state school employee Reimer paid in $54K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $728K in retirement

Former state school employee Kathleen Reimer, who retired in May 2017, saved $53,703 toward a pension over 14 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Reimer would collect as much as $728,366, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Metro East Sun.

The projection assumes Reimer received $15,309 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Reimer will have already received $64,046 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
