HSHS ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL: St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland Honors Colleagues with National DAISY and BEE Awards

Honor roll 01

HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital issued the following announcement on June 17.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Highland recently awarded Leah Becker, RN with the national DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's nationwide program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Leah was the nurse for a patient who unfortunately was experiencing horrible stomach pains. “Luckily he had nurse Leah who was a great patient advocate and kept pushing for something more for her patient in so much pain,” said the patient’s daughter. “It is usually my role to advocate for my father, but when I can’t, I am grateful for those like Leah who provide the family with trust.”

“We are proud of Leah being recognized as a DAISY Award winner,” said Teresa Cornelius, chief nursing officer at St. Joseph’s. “She was able to gain the trust from the family, to show that she will always be the patient’s voice, and that is exactly what our patients and their family need.”

Additionally, just as a daisy cannot survive without a bee, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by support colleagues. As such, Diane LaRose, CNA of the Wound Care Center recently received St. Joseph’s Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award.

LaRose was nominated by a colleague who said, “Diane provides exceptional care for patients and colleagues on a daily basis” Diane’s colleagues are thankful to have someone like her by their side, always willing to help.

Nominations for future DAISY and BEE Awards at St. Joseph’s continue to be accepted. Patients and visitors are encouraged to share and submit their story of witnessing excellent and compassionate care from staff. For a nomination form, please email Donna Dothager at Donna.Dothager@hshs.org.
