Illinois State Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) is going the extra mile for his constituents this holiday season by participating in a district wide food collection program. The veteran lawmaker is partnering with the Nourishing Greatness Program to collect food for their weekend food program.

“No child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from, but the sad reality is that there are children who do not have access to hot meals when they’re not in school,” Plummer told Metro East Sun. “The Nourishing Greatness program works to provide a measure of security to kids who might otherwise go hungry and I applaud them for their work in the Vandalia community. No matter how big or small, anything you can afford to donate can make a difference.”

Nourishing Greatness is billed as a local food program dedicated to eliminating hunger and raising about all the all too common tragedy of childhood hunger. As part of the program involving Plummer, the organization has a goal of sending a minimum of 4.5 meals home with Vandalia students in need that might otherwise be forced to do without.

Over the next several weeks, Plummer plans to use his Vandalia District Office as a food drop-off location where interested donors can take their contributions.

Among the non-perishable items being accepted are fruit cups, cereal, nuts, raisins, macaroni cups, apple sauce cups, oatmeal, pudding snack packs, pop tarts, crackers, granola bars, trail mix, bagged apples, soups and other dry or canned goods.

Now nearing his second year of serving as the face of the 54th District, Plummer serves on the Senate’s Appropriations, Financial Institutions, Public Health and Executive Appointments committees.

Plummer’s office will be open to receive donations Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those with questions can call 618-283-3000.
