For state Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro), leading the charge in Senate Bill 1305 becoming law was a no brainer.
“Very simple bill,” Bryant said during an April 29 Senate session on the measure that ultimately passed 53-0.
“A small school in Bluford Illinois had a problem with a contractor,” she said. “The contractor did not fulfill the forms that CBD needed. CBD suggested this piece of legislation so they can get the school paid so that the school can begin to pay the subcontractors and so the school is not responsible for paying back the state for the grant it received because of no fault of their own.”
SB 1305 also makes changes to provisions relating to school green construction projects.
Sponsored in the House by Reps. Paul Jacobs (R-Carbondale) and Tom Bennett (R-Gibson City), the measure is slated to take effect immediately.
