Illinois state Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) remains an outspoken leader, expressing her views on a wide range of issues. She is also involved in her community, recently making her presence felt at numerous events.

This week Bryant visited Dix for a playground ribbon cutting.

"I was pleased and proud to attend the ribbon cutting for a new playground at Rome School in Dix," she said in a Facebook post. "This awesome community continues to come through for their kids!"

The senator has kept herself busy during the break from legislative session. She recently joined Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) to promote funding for the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center's expansions.

Bryant has also spoken out on the issue of abortion in Illinois.

"More of your hard-earned money [is] being spent to provide abortions for anyone that wants one,” she said in a recent Facebook post, quoted by the North Egypt News. “Remember [that] in Illinois, all pregnant woman [sic] – regardless of income – qualify for Medicaid. That means 100% taxpayer-funded abortion."

Bryant also shared her thoughts on the state’s energy use.

“Illinois is both one of the top energy producing and energy consuming states in the nation,” she told the Carbondale Reporter recently. “We have to make sure that the energy production and grid capacity are able to keep up with our energy consumption. If we don’t, we face the possibility of even more utility rate increases and an even higher risk for rolling blackouts throughout much of the state.”

In the June 28 primary election, Bryant ran unopposed in her bid to continue serving the residents of District 58.
