Cougars, Trojans Battle to 1-1 Tie

SIUE seniors Maria Haro and Emma Dutko provided the offense on Senior Day as the Cougars and Little Rock finished with a 1-1 tie Sunday at Korte Stadium.

Haro scored eight yards out from the right side of the net on an inside pass from Dutko at the 35:13.

SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton was pleased with his five seniors.

"It was a great performance from Maria and Emma and Taylor Dolt," said Burton. "Lily Schnieders had another really good game. Defender Courtney Vollmer was our player of the game. I don't think she got beat one time during the game. I'm really proud of those seniors. They all did well today and have done great for four years."

SIUE outshot Little Rock 14-9. The Trojans evened the game just 1:13 into the second half as Bronte Peel scored from 10 yards out with an assist from Colleen Gilliland.

"We had plenty of quality chances today," said Burton. "We just couldn't get more than the one."

The Cougars will now have an 11-day layoff before its actual final home game of the regular season. SIUE meets UT Martin Oct. 20.

"We have a big break between now and our next game," said Burton. "We'll work on things and hopefully fine tune things. We'll keep at it. We have too much quality to do otherwise."
