The McKendree University men's cross country team closed out its regular season meet schedule here Friday afternoon as they posted a 15th place finish out of 18 teams in the Men's White Race at the Bradley University Pink Classic held at Newman Golf Course. Friday's event was divided into two races – a Red Race ('A' Race) and a White Race ('B' Race).
At the event, McKendree scored a total of 404 points to finish in 15th place overall and were 15 points in front of 16th place finisher Monmouth (Ill.) College (419 points) and one point behind 14th place finisher Webster (402 points).
McKendree was one of two Division II schools that competed in the meet, as six of 18 schools were Division I, while five of the schools were Division III and five junior colleges sent teams.
Leading the way for the Bearcats was freshman Byron Jones (Shiloh, Ill./Belleville East) was the top finisher for the Bearcats as he ran a season-best 8K time of 27:21.1 to finish in 74th place overall.
Grand Valley State took home the team title as the Lakers had four runners finish in the Top 10 as they tallied 22 points. Bradley, the host school, was second with 92 points and Bellarmine placed third with 113 points.
GVSU also had the top two individual finishers as Nicholas Hoffman took home first place with an 8K time of 24:33.7 and Samuel Baustert was second with an 8K time of 24:57.0. Unattached runner Woody Jerome was third with a time of 24:59.8.
Freshman Blake Westrater (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) was the second Bearcat to cross the finish line as he posted an 8K time of 27:57.8 to finish in 101st place.
A third freshman, John Bush (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) was the next finisher for the Bearcats as he ran an 8K time of 28:26.6 to finish in 116th place. Bush had been the Bearcats' top finisher in its first four meets this season.
Sophomore Seth Kasinger (Pekin, Ill./Pekin Community) was the next Bearcat to cross the finish line as he placed 135th overall with an 8K tine of 29:09.9.
Junior Oshawi Burgher (Kingston, Jamaica/Alderson Broaddus) posted a season-best 8K time of 30:35.0 to finish in 150th place overall.
Sophomore Braden Voss (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) was the sixth finisher for the Bearcats as he recorded an 8K time of 31:48.3 to finish in 165th place overall, while sophomore Caleb Kickham (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) posted an 8K time of 32:08.7 to finish in 166th place.
The final runner for the Bearcats on Friday was senior Isaac Winter (Highland, Ill./Highland), who posted an 8K time of 37:47.8 to finish in 180th place overall.
McKendree will now turn its attention to the postseason as the Bearcats will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 5 as they compete in the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which will be hosted by McKendree and held at the Principia North Farm XC Course in Elsah, Ill.
