Governor JB Pritzker has issued a disaster proclamation in response to the severe storm system that affected Illinois from July 13 to July 16, 2024. The storms caused widespread damage, prompting State Representative Charlie Meier to work on providing aid to impacted communities.

The storm system brought heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hail, tornadoes, and straight-line winds. Nashville, Illinois experienced significant flooding and an overflow of the Nashville reservoir. Winds reached up to 105 miles per hour, affecting homes, businesses, and local utilities.

“These summer storms have wreaked havoc across Illinois, and this disaster proclamation is an important step to mobilizing the resources needed to support our local communities as we recover. Since these storms ripped through my district, I’ve been working with emergency agencies, the Governor’s office, and our local communities to bring attention and resources to the affected communities,” said State Representative Charlie Meier.

Governor Pritzker’s disaster proclamation covers Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will, and Winnebago Counties as disaster areas. This action releases state resources and facilitates requests for federal disaster assistance if necessary.

Representative Meier urged residents to stay informed through local updates and cooperate with emergency response efforts during recovery. “We are committed to working closely with state and local agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to this disaster,” he added.
