FOIA Request Sent to City Of Troy Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Troy Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at Metro East Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

We are seeking records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically relating to sales tax collected from retailers. The requested data spans from January 1, 2024, up until the present date.

The information we have asked for includes the amount of sales tax collected from retailers each month compared to projections. We have also requested data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month.

Additionally, we are interested in obtaining the names of each retailer and their reported gross retail sales for each month within the specified period.

As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We eagerly await a response from the City Of Troy Finance Department regarding this matter.
