As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Jerseyville Finance Department in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The information sought pertains to sales tax collected from retailers starting from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. We have specifically requested for records that include the following fields:
- Sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures
- Number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month
- Names of each retailer and gross retail sales reported by each for the month
We believe access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we are hopeful that we will be eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the City Of Jerseyville Finance Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments regarding this request.
