Southern Illinois University (SIU) Edwardsville campus regulars are now witnessing signs of a forthcoming finale to infrastructure improvements as massive construction projects designed to enhance university life near completion after months of activity.
Interim Vice Chancellor for Administration Richard Walker recently said the institution’s $300 million-plus growth package already has imparted benefits to students, faculty, staff and visitors.
SIU launched several addition, renovation and repair projects. Its most recent improvement plans will include a project design and fabrication addition for engineering students, renovation of the original 50-year-old science building, restoration of the School of Dental Medicine’s clinic to expand both practice and laboratory quarters, and major window replacement for the Art & Design East building, where original glass-block facades are in disrepair.
“Each of these projects represents the university’s commitment to our students and faculty by investing in an infrastructure that allows them to excel in learning and teaching,” Walker said.
