U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) attended a bill signing ceremony at the White House, where President Trump signed the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act into law. The legislation was a priority for Bost in his role as chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
The new law establishes a VA partial claim program that allows veterans who are behind on their mortgage payments to access federal assistance through other available housing programs. According to Bost, “It was an honor to stand by President Trump’s side at the White House this afternoon as he signed important legislation into law providing our veterans a lifeline to keep their homes and avoid foreclosure when suffering financial hardship.” He added, “The VA Home Loan Program Reform Act will modernize the VA Home Loan to meet veterans’ needs and reduce the risk of veteran homelessness. I was proud to help lead the fight to get this important legislation to President Trump’s desk.”
H.R. 1815, known as the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, has received support from several organizations including the Mortgage Bankers Association, Rocket, National Association of Realtors (NAR), Freedom Mortgage, National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB), Lyft, Mission Roll Call, New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV), National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and The American Legion.
Bost has represented Illinois's 12th congressional district since winning his first election in 2014. In that year, he defeated William L. Enyart with 52.5% of the vote. He went on to win subsequent elections against Charles Baricevic in 2016 with 54.3%, Raymond Lenzi in 2020 with 60.4%, Brendan Kelly in 2018 with 51.6%, and Chip Markel in 2022 with 75%.
