SIUE's Residori earns All-American status

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville wrestler Jake Residori placed eighth at 174 pounds to earn All-American status at the NCAA Division I Championships on March 17 in St. Louis.

According to SIUE's athletic website, Residori went 5-3 at the tournament, including a preliminary match, to become the first Cougar to earn All-American status since the program went to Division I. He also is the eighth SIUE wrestler ever to reach that level.

Residori, a senior from Shorewood, Illinois, finished the season with a 24-11 record.

At the tournament, Residori beat two finalists from the Big 12 Conference and the fourth seed, Zach Epperley of Virginia Tech, in his run of victories.

In other SIUE results, Freddie Rodriguez, a senior from Lansing, Michigan, went 2-2 at 125 and ended the season with a 23-8 record. Also, Jake Tindle went 0-2 at 197. The senior from Troy, Illinois, went 19-12 this season.
