Southern Illinois at Edwardsville (SIUE) wants softball coaches to get defensive at a clinic the school will host this fall, SIUE announced recently.
The clinic will take place Sept. 15-16, conducted by the National Fastpitch Coaches College and instructors such as Notre Dame head coach Deanna Gumpf, Hofstra head coach Larissa Anderson and Carol Bruggeman, executive director of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The clinic will focus on ways a coach can create a solid defensive unit, including using statistics; defending bunts, slaps and steals; getting a better grasp of angles, communication system and charts; executing pickoffs, pitches that get away from the catcher, and rundowns; analyzing defensive sets and using them correctly during games; and using the DP-Flex rule effectively.
Cost to attend the course is $199. Go to nfca.org or call 502-409-4600 for more information.
