The Illinois House of Representatives has passed Senate Bill 1950 with a vote count of 63-42. The bill, which deals with physician-assisted suicide, saw opposition from several Democrats. State Representative Amy Elik was among those who voted against it.

Elik expressed her concerns about the bill's transformation and its implications. “By the title, you’d think this is a Sanitary Food Preparation bill,” she stated. “The reality is far more serious: physician assisted suicide – and it just passed the House. In true Illinois fashion, a shell bill was morphed in the final week of session and turned into an issue of utmost importance – life and death. I voted for life.”

Following its passage in the House, SB 1950 will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
