Alton Historical Commission met  Aug. 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Doug Bader, Monica Mason, Diane Plummer and Charlene Walker

MEMBERS ABSENT: Mary Anderson, Chase Green and Jonas Janek

OTHERS PRESENT: Mary Kate Brown, Thomas Haine, Rita Davis, Janet McNelly, Gerald Mozur, Deanna Barnes, Deputy Director of Building and Zoning, Sam Shaw, Building Inspector and Becky Brunaugh, Secretary

The meeting of the Alton Historic Commission was called to order by Doug Bader at 8:05 a.m. on August 1, 2017

Monica Mason moved to accept the minutes for July 6, 2017 as presented. Diane Plummer seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

APPLICATIONS:

Mary Kate Brown presented the application for 619 E. 12th St. She is installing a 6’ privacy fence around the back of the residence. It will be a wood fence stained chestnut in color.

Monica Mason moved to accept the application. Diane Plummer seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Thomas Haine presented the application for 1501 Liberty St. He is installing a black aluminum picket fence around the front and side yards. It will be 4’ in height with arched tops at the gates.

Diane Plummer moved to accept the application. Charlene Walker seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Rachel Davis presented the application for 612 E. 16th St. She is installing a 6’ wood privacy fence around the driveway and back of the property.

Monica Mason moved to accept the application. Charlene Walker seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Janet McNelly presented the application for 1520 Liberty St. She is installing eight storm windows in the home. They will be wood frames, white in color.

Monica Mason moved to accept the application. Diane Plummer seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Gerald Mozur presented the application for 514 E. 11th St. He is installing a 4’ privacy fence with a lattice top around the back of the property, and a 3’-4’ picket fence around the side of the property. Both fences will be white vinyl.

Diane Plummer moved to accept the application. Charlene Walker seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

OTHER BUSINESS:

The possible creation of a cultural district was discussed briefly in response to a previously held meeting with Joshua Young. Deanna Barnes has contacted the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency for assistance.

There being no further discussion or comments from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 a.m.
