Jason Plummer, a State Senator from Illinois, has expressed concerns about the legislative process in the state. He said that it is being misused to benefit political donors rather than citizens and small businesses. Plummer called for greater transparency in a statement made on Facebook.

"The lack of transparency and accountability in Springfield is amazing," said Plummer, State Senator for Illinois, according to Facebook. "The legislative process must follow the law. Once again, in the middle of the night, we saw the Democrat majority hand out egregious gifts to their political donors and special interest allies to the detriment of the citizens of Illinois struggling to keep their head above water and the small businesses throughout this state that wonder why they shouldn't just fold their tent. Our state is being hollowed out by corruption and bad public policy."

Illinois continues to face criticism over legislative transparency and accountability. According to the Chicago Tribune, frequent use of late-night sessions, limited public bill review, and fast-tracked legislation have drawn concern from watchdogs.

U.S. News & World Report highlights that a 2024 University of Illinois Springfield survey found only 18% of Illinois residents trust their state government. Additionally, Illinois remains among the top states for public corruption convictions per capita.

WalletHub reports that Illinois ranks among the worst states for business climate in 2024. The report cites high taxes and negative public perceptions of legislative fairness as key reasons for increased business closures.

According to Ballotpedia, Jason Plummer is a Republican State Senator representing Illinois’ 54th District since 2019. He is also a former U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer and advocates for fiscal responsibility, ethics reform, and job growth.
