Belleville area cheers Lisa Madigan's decision to call it quits
The Belleville News-Democrat's Facebook page came to life recently with an outpouring of general relief and delight that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will end her reign in 2019.
“Best news I’ve heard all week!!! I’m going to throw a party,” Mike Quigley posted.
“Finally some good news for Illinois,” Tim Kelly wrote.
Some respondents said that they hope Madigan's departure is just the start of something.
“This state needs term limits!" Brandon Gehrig posted. "The Madigans run this state and we all know this state is a mess."
Madigan’s father is House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago).
"Thank God 1 Madigan out; now we hope her father follows suit," Dave Lindley wrote.
"Best thing could happen is take her daddy with her!!," Sharon Ann posted.
"Good get her and her dad out and get Illinois back to being good," Kelly Shockley Niana added.
"Let's just run them all out of Illinois," Dennis Harris commented.
Lisa Madigan has said she will not seek another state office when she leaves the attorney general's post.
"I wouldn't trust it," Heather Spence Rhew commented. "She is gonna run for Rep or Governor, just watch."
"She will no doubt run for another office where she can hurt this state even more!" Gary Gansmann wrote.
Madigan has been the attorney general for 14 years.
