Cahokia VFD responds to 70 fires in 2016

Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department responded to 102 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The calls in Cahokia included 70 fires - 37 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 21 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $432,700 in fire loss - or about $6,181 per fire.

The department also received 32 false calls, including two malicious calls and 30 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.
