U.S. Representative Mike Bost has announced that the Federal Highway Administration is providing $11.1 million for the Crab Orchard Greenway Multimodal Network. This funding will support the construction of 12 miles of new multi-use trails, aimed at improving access and safety for local drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
"Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge is a treasure enjoyed by countless Southern Illinois families," said Bost. "With this important federal funding secured, U.S Fish and Wildlife Service can better enhance outdoor recreation and make travel safer for everyone in the area."
The new trails will be part of a larger 50-mile trail network along the Illinois Route 13 corridor.
