Monica Bristow, president of the RiverBend Growth Association, will vie against Republican Mike Babcock for the House District 111 seat being vacated by Rep. Daniel Beiser (D-Alton), who is retiring at the end of his current term.

For more than 15 years, Bristow has led the RiverBend Growth Association, a joint chamber of commerce and economic development organization for the Riverbend area, which includes Alton, Bethalto, Foster Township, Roxana and Wood River Township, the association said on its website. As president, she oversees business functions and works with local government officials on the association’s economic development initiatives.

Bristow also represents the association at various local functions, having recently presided over the group’s annual State of the RiverBend luncheon, where she presented the association’s Captain of the RiverBend awards to companies that invested significant time or funds in the community, according to The Telegraph.

Babcock, an insurance firm owner, has staked out policy positions against increased taxes and abortion and is in favor of increased school funding and policies to promote economic growth, a report in the Metro East Sun said.

House District 111 includes Alton, East Alton and parts of Godfrey Bethalto, Edwardsville and Granite City.
