City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee met Nov. 7.

A meeting of the CPEEC was called to order at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 7th, 2017, at Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton.
Members present: Jeff Dale, Alderman David Boulds, Wayne Politsch
Zeke Jabusch, Deanna Barnes-DD of Dev-, Randy Hausmann
Visitors: Matthew Emden, Nick Johnson, Jeff lewis
Introductions were made, history & mission of cool cities discussed, and interests & skill areas of Mathew, Nick, & Jeff were reviewed.
Discussion of the recent joint meeting of the 6 cool city communities. Letters sent to OBB & Sierra Club (Virginia) thanking them for the space and appetizers.
A brief discuss of the joint City of Alton, SSPC meeting-especially on the walkability audit & MCT transportation system
Dave: an overview of the Alton Water Treatment plant plans:.gasification of sludge/ organic waste.in stage 2 engineering plans. will generate renewable energy credits plus fertilizer.3 year $$$payback. American Water proposal to buy AWT plant.city can get out from unfunded mandates. solar plan need a location ( app acres??) to provide a space. Jeff- city policy at Boulder Co. for composting food from residential food waste (Currently individual household waste is not included in the plan. Does someone on our committee need to write a letter of support for the plan?
Nick: What happens to solid/organic waste in Alton? Who does what? Republic has the contract to pick up materials. Cool cities did a field trip to “the landfill” in Madison county last December.and the Republic recycling plant near St. Charles several years ago. (app. 80% solids are recycled).missing links are bars/restaurants/ apartments that use private haulers.
Randy volunteered to check out a few Alton bars/restaurants. to address who are the “waste” haulers and what happens to the material.
