City of Edwardsville SIUE Community Destination Group met Jan. 19.

Here is the agenda provided by the Group:

Present: Chair- Chad Verbais, Kim Durr, Luke Jansen, Walter Williams, Doug Rohrer, Jessica DeSpain, Paul Pitts

Absent: Matthew Parrott, Kelly Jo Karnes, Megan Gooch, Ramon DeShazer, Cheryl Watson

Chad opened the meeting at 6:05 p.m.

SIUE basketball community event - Chad: event will occur on Saturday, January 20 at 1pm and is being advertised as the City of Edwardsville Day with SIUE Men’s Basketball. Our committee purchased 100 tickets (we paid $250 and SIUE gave us $250 toward the purchase of the tickets) that we will give away for free to residents at either City Hall or the YMCA. In addition, SIUE is offering $5 tickets the day of the event that will include a free hot dog and soda. Advertising will be via Facebook, the City website, and per Doug, a PSA in The Intelligencer – as well as word of mouth. It was also suggested to talk to John Cunningham to see if he can put it on ECTV. The mayor and the Chancellor will appear in a video that will tape before the event and it will be broadcast during halftime of the game. City Officials will be invited to a VIP room before and during the game for free food and beverages.

Financials – Doug: reported that we have $4,215.72 remaining.

Thank you, Betsy – A thank you card for former member Betsy Meinz was passed around, and will be again

next meeting, so that everyone can sign.

Bridge Building City Campus Ideas:

 Discussions occurred about a possible Student Night at the Wildey, which could be paired with dinner and a movie (possibly survey students for movie ideas). Dinner could be coordinated to happen for a percentage off the total bill if an SIUE ID was displayed.

 A new Springboard video was discussed – a videographer needs to be agreed on and shooting should start once things begin to bloom. It will need to be ready by May 15.

 Bags for Springboard as well as goodies need to be ordered soon, and Walt asked us to prepare a preliminary budget for next year.

 Bringing back the block party or having a party for graduates in the Spring was briefly discussed as we would like to start a new tradition in the City.

Next meeting on Tuesday, January 16 at 6pm.

Meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.
