Illinois government has been the subject of a great deal of ridicule in the past, and many individuals identifying as true conservatives blame Gov. Bruce Rauner for the most recent round of scorn.

Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) is answering the call for a conservative governor by taking on Rauner in the Republican primary.

Don Moore, a Troy Republican running against Rep. Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) in the GOP primary in the 108th District, believes that Illinois needs a new state leader for a number of reasons.

"A (new) leader, I believe, will show true conservative principles with strong action and efforts to improve the economic health of Illinois, and better represent the majority in this state – morally, ethically, principled, and fiscal conservatives," Moore told the Metro East Sun.

Despite the race for Illinois governor being in full swing, Rauner has appeared less than eager to face Ives in a debate with his refusals on multiple occasions being interpreted as cowardice by critics.

"The voters of Illinois would benefit from a debate between Gov. Rauner and state Rep. Ives," Moore said.

Even though a faceoff between the two has been promoted on YouTube, there still are questions that have been left unanswered, such as why the governor is avoiding Ives to begin with.

"After watching the debate, I learned that Ms. Ives was a strong candidate and Gov. Rauner seemed hapless in comparison to her," Moore said. "Aside from the results of that debate, I will be candid and state that I believe it is time for Gov. Rauner to step aside and allow a new leader to govern Illinois."

The 108th House District includes parts of Clinton, Madison, St. Clair and Washington counties.
