Republican David Friess is looking to unseat incumbent Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Smithton) in the 116th House District race.
Friess has labeled himself a conservative fighter who "wants his children to inherit a state and region better than what they are today," according to his campaign website.
He is campaigning on ending Rep. Mike Madigan's (D-Chicago) post as speaker of the house and said on his website he will vote to fire Madigan in January if elected. Friess also wants to create more jobs, lower taxes and impose term limits on state representatives.

His opponent has been serving in the Illinois House since 2011 and is a member of the Consumer Protection, Tourism and Conventions, Agriculture and Conservation, Veterans' Affairs, and Armed Forces and Military Affairs committees.
Friess, who was an Air Force C-141 crew chief during Operation Desert Storm, said a tour of Springfield would be "his last tour of duty," according to his website.
