Rep. Charles Meier (R-Okawville) was proud to announce yet another state title champion team out of his district at the April 24 House floor debate.
HR947 congratulates the Okawville High School varsity boys basketball team for winning the 2017-18 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Championship.
Meier said for many years the Rockets were coached by Sen. Dave Luechtefeld and are now coached by three of the senator's former students, who brought the team to its first state win. Meier cited the score stats that brought the team to the title.

“In the super-sectional, there wasn’t a fingernail left in Okawville because everybody kept biting them as we went into double overtime,” Meier said of the winning score, 65-64.
He said the team worked hard together all year.
“When you read about a lot of basketball teams, you read about the different stories and they talk about their star,” Meier said.
But not with the Rockets, he added.
“When you read about this teams win, that star was a different player every game,” Meier said. “They had a mission; they were going to win the state tournament.”
