Rep. Charlie Meier (R-Murphysboro) dedicated a piece of his district to a fallen pilot.
“HJR99 is in honor of Larry Mills, who was killed in July 2016 in California flying a medical helicopter,” Meier said at the May 8 House floor debate.
The patient, a nurse and a paramedic were also killed in the accident, he added.
Rep. Charles Meier (R-Okawville)
“Larry Mills grew up in Marine and went to Triad High School and was a Marine Volunteer Fireman for 12 years,” Meier said.
Mills went on to sign contracts with the U.S. Army and Air Force training pilots, he added. According to the bill text, the Larry Mills Aviation Memorial Scholarship has been created by Highland Area Community Foundation to honor the life and career of Mills, who gave his life serving others.
“This resolution Designates Illinois Route 143 as it travels from its intersection with Route 4 east through the City of Marine as the ‘Larry D. Mills Memorial Highway,’" Meier said.
HJR99 passed unanimously at 111-0.
