Between being present while Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoes a bill and stumping with U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro), state House candidate Mike Babcock has been busy.

Babcock, who is running against incumbent state Rep. Monica Bristow (D-Godfrey), barely stopped moving in July.

“I was glad to see Governor Rauner veto a bill that would have handed control of the Metro East Sanitary District back to the political machine that mismanaged it for years,” Babcock said on a July 18 Facebook post, adding the bill is nothing but a backroom deal with one purpose, which is to protect cronyism in local government at the expense of voters and taxpayers.

“It's more of the same from Springfield Democrats and it's what I'm running to fight against,” Babcock added.

Less than a week later on July 23, the House hopeful for the 111th District, which includes Alton and Wood River in Madison County, spoke at a fundraiser for Bost.

“I made a few things very clear in my remarks: Never will I vote for a tax increase, for job-killing regulations, or for Mike Madigan to be Speaker,” Babcock wrote on Facebook. “I will fight for the people of this district and against the backroom deals in Springfield that have harmed our state.”
