Republican candidate Doug Jameson has vowed to remove House Speaker Mike Madigan from power and work to establish term limits for elected officials in Illinois.

“Firing Mike Madigan is central to my message for rescuing this state from the doldrums,” Jameson told the Metro East Sun. “Career politicians like he and my opponent, Jay Hoffman, are a big part of the reason we’re behind the eight ball. It goes back to the old saying that ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ That’s what Mike Madigan’s 40 years in Springfield has come to represent, and there’s no doubt he has Jay Hoffman in his back pocket.”

Jameson formally adopted the issues into his campaign for the 113th District House seat by signing “The People’s Pledge,” which has been signed by a growing consortium of Republican candidates and lawmakers.

Jameson said it’s just as clear that Hoffman (D-Swansea) has become a blight and impediment to the community.

“My message to all the people of District 113 is that after 22 years of him being in office they have not benefited one bit and for the last 20 years the city has been in decline,” he said. “He is irretrievably tied to Mike Madigan and it’s time for a complete change in leadership.”

Jameson has knocked on more than 14,000 doors in the community during his campaign and plans to match that as the election approaches in November, he said.

“The other part of the message is that Illinois is home and it’s worth fighting for to the end,” Jameson said. “We have to remember that, despite all the darkness the likes of Madigan and Hoffman have brought us.

The 113th House District includes all or parts of Brooklyn, Caseyville, Fairmont City, Pontoon Beach, Shiloh, Swansea and Washington Park.
