Freeburg Community Consolidated School District 70 students suspended 33 times in a single school year

Freeburg Community Consolidated School District 70 reported 33 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 33 students during the year. That equates to 4.2 percent of the 781 students enrolled.

Of the 28 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 20 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. There were two incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For three incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
