Pontiac-West Holliday School District 105 students suspended, expelled 110 times in a single school year

Pontiac-West Holliday School District 105 reported three expulsions and 107 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 110 students during the year. That equates to 15.3 percent of the 720 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for two incidents with unspecified reasons and one incident with a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm.

Of the 56 in-school suspensions, 45 were given to boys and 11 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 56 incidents. For 43 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 51 out-of-school suspensions, 39 were given to boys and 12 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 50 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
