Jersey Community Unit School District 100 students suspended 82 times in a single school year

Jersey Community Unit School District 100 reported 82 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 82 students during the year. That equates to 3.2 percent of the 2,589 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 38 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 34 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 43 out-of-school suspensions, including 18 elementary or middle schoolers and 25 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 27 incidents. There were 14 incidents of drugs. For 20 incidents, students were suspended for 5-10 days.
