Jirehl Brock bulled his way to 236 yards and four touchdowns to lead Quincy in a 42-23 win over host Belleville East.
Already committed to attend Iowa State, Brock turned heads in leading a three-back attack that averaged 11.5 yards per carry over the first half in getting the Blue Devils off and running. Senior Garret Drew racked up 115 yards on the ground and Quincy finished with 463 yards rushing overall.
“(Brock) is a grown man out there playing,” Belleville East coach Kris Stephens told the Belleville News-Democrat. “He’s a Division I back and they have an offense that makes it incredibly difficult to find him and stop him. With that offense, once you figure out who’s got the ball, he’s already three or four yards downfield.”

Seeking to rebound from the previous week’s disappointing loss to Alton, Quincy coach Rick Little had 24-hours less to get his team prepared as the game was moved up from its original Friday schedule to Thursday in response to Tropical Storm Gordon.
“I told the guys ‘look we’re playing tomorrow’ and the guys were ready to go,” Little told the News-Democrat. “Whenever we suffer defeat like we did last week, it’s one of those deals where you want to get that taste out of your mouth right away. We were anxious to play the game tonight.”
Brock ended all the suspense with a 55-yard scoring jaunt in the third quarter that put the Blue Devils up 35-10 and out of any danger. On the night, he added scoring runs of 25 and 10-yards and also caught a 43-yard scoring strike from senior quarterback Donovan Prost.
