Edwardsville State House candidate Katie Stuart received another $70,360 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Aug. 15 and Sept. 6, state filings show.

The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends for Katie Stuart, the campaign committee that supports Stuart’s race against Republican Dwight Kay in the 112th district.

The district covers all or part of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Granite City, Collinsville, Fairview Heights and O’Fallon.

Madigan’s contributions to Stuart came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $1,020,367 to the candidate’s campaign.

From Aug. 15 to Sept. 6, Madigan spent $2.67 million backing campaigns for 31 candidates. He's spent more than $100,000 on 12 candidates and more than $40,000 on 18.
