Godfrey State House candidate Monica Bristow received $92,206 from Illinois House Speaker and Democrat Party Chief Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) between Aug. 15 and Sept. 6, state filings show.
The Madigan funding was disclosed in reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) by Friends of Monica Bristow, the campaign committee that supports Bristow’s race against Republican Michael Babcock in the 111th district.
The district covers all or part of Elsah, Godfrey, Alton, Bethalto, E Alton, Wood River, Roxana, Edwardsville and Granite City.
Madigan’s contributions to Bristow came from the campaign funds he controls, including his own committee, Friends of Michael J. Madigan, the Illinois Democratic Party and the Democratic County Chairman’s Association of Illinois. In all, Madigan has contributed $107,227 to the candidate’s campaign.
Madigan gave $9,521 to Godfrey between July 15 and Aug. 15, state filings show.
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 6, Madigan spent $2.67 million backing campaigns for 31 candidates. He's spent more than $100,000 on 12 candidates and more than $40,000 on 18.
