Republican Doug Jameson wants to rescue Illinois from Democratic leadership that has held sway for four decades.
Doug Jameson is spending the waning hours of his campaign stressing the one thing he believes may speed Illinois’ recovery.
“We need to be fired up to fire Mike Madigan,” he told Metro East Sun. “There’s no way we can rescue Illinois and put the state back on track as long as Mike Madigan is in power as House speaker.”
Challenging state Rep. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) in the 113th House District, the Republican candidate and retired U.S. Army veteran is doing his part by battling to end the longtime alliance his opponent shares with Madigan.
“Jay Hoffman owes all his loyalty to Mike Madigan based on all the money [Madigan] has pumped into his campaign,” Jameson said. “That’s where his allegiance lies. There’s no way he can have the needs and concerns of his constituents first.”
A recent Illinois Policy Institute report detailed that Hoffman has taken more than $408,000 from Madigan and cast at least nine votes in favor of him retaining his speakership.
"It’s all gone hand and hand with Madigan reigning as the longest-serving House Speaker in history, now having served more than four decades in office," he said. Jameson stresses his campaign is about providing the kind of change and new leadership that is needed in Springfield.
“I’m running because in the midst of all this the people of the 113th District are not being adequately represented,” he said.
With all the critical issues the state faces, Jameson said he hopes voters will turn out in big numbers to support Republicans and achieve change.
“Everywhere I’ve campaigned people have talked about how we can’t continue on this tax-crazed, no balanced budget path,” he said. “Those are some of the primary reasons we’ve seen all the out-migration that we have.”
The 113th House District includes Madison and St. Clair counties.
