Belleville West grad and Oklahoma University star kicker Austin Siebert is both the school and Big 12 Conference’s new all-time scoring leader.
“One kick, two records,” school officials saluted Siebert on the Oklahoma Football Twitter page after he recently booted a 36-yard field goal against rival Oklahoma State to secure both records. In all, Siebert totaled 12 points during the Sooners 48-47 victory, giving him 458 for his career.
Siebert hinted to the Belleville News-Democrat he hopes the new records give kickers like himself more of the credit he believes that they deserve.
“A lot of kickers and punters get overlooked,” he told the newspaper. “That’s just the position. But now my name is in the record books and everything. I think that’s really cool to go back and look at. I’ll be able to tell my kids and family 20-30 years from now this is what I did in college.”
For his career, Siebert has now converted in 281 of 285 extra-point attempts for a 98.6 percentage. The senior star likely has at least four more games in his career for the currently sixth-ranked Sooners.
