ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 112: Stuart Hosts Opioid Round Table with Local Mayors and Public Safety Officials

112

Illinois State House District 112 issued the following announcement on June 26

To facilitate an open conversation between local elected officials and law enforcement, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, hosted an opioid round table with Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn, First Assistant State’s Attorney Crystal Uhe, state Rep. Monica Bristow, D- Godfrey, and state Sen. Rachelle Crowe, D- Glen Carbon. The meeting was held at the Public Safety Building in Edwardsville.

“Conversations like this are critical to forming strong policy and legislation to address the issues that affect our communities every day,” Stuart said. “We need to hear from our first responders and people on the ground working to fight the opioid crisis to craft legislation that will protect them while they do their job to keep our communities safe.”

At the event, Stuart and other officials talked about the work they have done in their respective offices to help combat the opioid crisis afflicting areas like the Metro East. After discussing their work on the crisis, the various police, fire chiefs and mayors talked about issues specific to their townships and areas.

“Overall, it was a productive meeting, and I look forward to bringing back what I heard to Springfield when we return to session,” Stuart continued. “I’d like to thank the local law enforcement and fire departments for all they do to keep the residents in my district safe.”
