EAST ST. LOUIS SCHOOL DISTRICT 189: Come Volunteer With Us Explore Tutoring

East St. Louis School District 189 recently issued the following announcement.

Have you thought about volunteering to make a difference with youth but wonder how to start?

Join us for Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring training!  The Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program is seeking volunteers to serve with one student for one hour a week.  We train you and provide you with supports to be a successful tutor for elementary age students.

Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring is a volunteer program that pairs older adults with children in grades K-3 to work one-on-one each week as their tutors, mentors and friends. Oasis tutors use a six-step approach to literacy designed by educators that emphasizes improved reading, speaking, listening and writing.

Thursday, October 3 – 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. 

2nd Floor Training Area-East St. Louis District 189 Administration Building, 1005 State Street

East St. Louis, Illinois 62201

Day 1 – Complete online course prior to October 3 using your home computer

(School District computers are available on Wednesday, October 2  from 9am-noon)

Location: 2nd Floor Computer Lab- East St. Louis District 189 Administration Building, 1005 State Street, East St. Louis, Illinois 62201

Link to online course will be emailed to confirmed participants and takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

Day 2 – Thursday, October 3 – 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  (Lunch will be provided.)
