City of Alton Appearance Review Commission met July 31.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Debbie Schuneman, Margaret Hopkins, Nick Moehn MEMBERS NOT PRESENT: Mike Doucleff, Barb Gearing, Gen Gearing
OTHERS PRESENT: Natalie Ritter, Vicki Delaney, Sam Shaw – Building Inspector, Becky Brunaugh – Secretary
A meeting of the Appearance Review Commission was held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Chairwoman Debbie Schuneman called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m.
Margaret Hopkins made a motion to approve the minutes from July 19, 2019 as presented. Nick Moehn seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
APPLICATIONS:
Natalie Ritter with Arrow Signs presented the sign application for 219 E. 4th St. The sign will have a brick base that rises 7’ from grade to bottom of sign, LED display will be approximately 3’, then a blue and white sign reading “Marquette Catholic High School”. Total height of sign will be approximately 10’. This sign will be replacing the existing ground sign. It will be perpendicular to the road, approximately 3’6” from the stone corner. The brick will match the monument on Easton Street. LED will be on both sides.
Nick Moehn made a motion to approve the application as presented. Margaret Hopkins seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Vicky Delaney with Riverbend Yoga presented the sign application for 202 State St. The proposed sign is to be gray and black, 300” x 23”, reading “Riverbend Yoga”, non-illuminated.
Margaret Hopkins made a motion to approve the application as presented. Nick Moehn seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Debbie Schuneman contacted Damien Jones and told him to call the mayor regarding the vacant commissioner seat.
Sam Shaw is to send Giant City Properties a letter asking them to appear before the commission regarding the sign at 111 E. 4th St.
Archive photos of the former Greer Drugstore show it had a similar sign to Mac’s on Third.
The Third Street arches proposed by Small Business Revolution are still coming.
There being no further discussion or comment from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 a.m.
