City of Alton Appearance Review Commission met Aug. 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Debbie Schuneman, Barb Gearing, Gen Gearing, Margaret Hopkins, Nick Moehn

MEMBER NOT PRESENT: Mike Doucleff

OTHERS PRESENT: Paul Hellrung, Mayor Brant Walker, Alderman Charles Brake

A meeting of the Appearance Review Commission was held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Chairwoman Debbie Schuneman called the meeting to order at 8:04 a.m.

Barb Gearing made a motion to approve the minutes from July 31, 2019 as presented. Margaret Hopkins seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

APPLICATION:

Paul Hellrung presented the application for 613-615 E. Broadway. He will be replacing the second floor windows, both front and back of the building, with aluminum wrapped, double hung windows, same size, chestnut brown in color to match Lucianna’s. The double doors on the right side of the building will be replaced with a single, 36” wide door with sidelights to fit the opening and match the door on the left. The door will be steel, painted black. The windows above the doors and main windows will have the board-ups removed. The building will be repainted a dark gray with black trim. A plaque will be placed at the top center of the building, 26” wide x 6” tall. It will be bronze, with the background painted black. Three inch letters reading “HELLRUNG” will be spelled out on it.

Nick Moehn made a motion to approve the front windows, door and plaque. Gen Gearing seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Margaret Hopkins made a motion to approve the rear windows. Barb Gearing seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

OTHER BUSINESS:

Sam spoke with the manager at 111 W. 4th St., and the sign is permanent. He will speak to someone about appearing before the commission.

There being no further discussion or comment from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:21 a.m.
