Illinois state Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) is enlisting the aid of his constituents to ensure that military veterans across the state get the recognition they deserve on Veterans Day.

Plummer, himself a veteran of the U.S. Navy, has gone out of his way to promote the “Wall of Honor” tribute that will be on display in the Illinois State Capitol Building over the first two weeks of November to honor members of the armed services. As part of the event, Plummer is encouraging residents of the 54th District to submit photos and 250-word testimonials about loved ones who served as members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

“I was proud to serve in the United States Navy with some of the best people our nation has to offer,” Plummer said in a press release. “We should always thank and honor our veterans for their courage and the many sacrifices they made protecting our nation. The least we can do is show respect by sharing a photo and story to honor their service.”

Plummer has requested that all submissions include the name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy), conflict and era served (Afghanistan, Iraq, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other). Military photos are preferred, but not necessary.

Submissions should be sent  to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov or mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 309 G Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706 by Nov. 3. Those with additional questions are encouraged to call 217-782-7330.

For those who submit a tribute and would like to visit the capital to view the display, organizers ask that you view this video before you travel to Springfield.

Still in his first term, Plummer sits on the Senate Appropriations and Public Health Committees. His 54th District includes all or portions of Bond, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Madison, Marion and St. Clair counties.
