ALTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Dr. Laura Hill Honored with AMH Chairman’s Award

Alton Memorial Hospital recently issued the following announcement.

Dr. Laura Hill is the winner of the 2019 Alton Memorial Hospital Chairman’s Award.

Dr. Hill, a pediatrician with Pediatric HealthCare Unlimited on the AMH campus, was honored at the annual Physicians Appreciation Reception, held recently at the Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis. Steve Thompson, chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, made the presentation to Dr. Hill to the applause of her colleagues.

Dr. Hill began at AMH in 2006 and became president of the medical staff in May 2019. She has also been a member of the Medical Executive Committee since 2009.

“Dr. Hill is very deserving of this honor,” Thompson said. “This is always a great honor for a doctor since nominations come from their peers along with hospital employees who work together every day to improve the health of the communities we serve. Each of the nominated physicians is a well-respected member of the AMH team. On behalf of the board of directors and staff, I thank each of them for their commitment.”

Some of the comments about Dr. Hill in the nominations for her received from AMH staff and physicians included:

  • Ensures that our practices are up to date
  • Recommends Alton Memorial Hospital in the community
  • Is an advocate for excellent nursing care and skill
  • Ensures clear lines of communication between providers and our patients
  • Has worked diligently to implement best practices
  • Continues to support our community through health and wellness initiatives.
“I am grateful to work with such a talented and dedicated team of nurses, staff and providers- both in the hospital and at my practice, to ensure that our patients and our community receive excellent care every day,” Dr. Hill said. “I’d like to thank the hospital leadership for encouraging me to continue to grow professionally, my practice partners and staff for their daily demonstration of commitment and mentorship over the years, my patients for their trust and friendship, and especially my family and friends for their love and support.”

Dr. Hill graduated from East Alton-Wood River High school in 1994, earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1998, and her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2002. She completed her residency in 2005 at Washington University-St Louis Children’s Hospital. She lives in Alton with her three boys.  

The Chairman’s Award publicly acknowledges a member of the AMH medical staff for the contributions the physician makes to the hospital and community, active participation in hospital and medical staff departmental affairs, and the promotion and practice of outstanding customer service with hospital patients and staff.
