Alton Historical Commission met Oct. 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: Doug Bader, Mary Anderson-Keller, Deanna Barnes, Chase Green, Monica Mason, Diane Plummer

MEMBER NOT PRESENT: Charlene Walker

OTHERS PRESENT: Wendell McAfoos, Joshua Young, Sam Shaw – Building Inspector,

Becky Brunaugh - Secretary

The meeting of the Alton Historic Commission was called to order by Chairman Doug Bader at 8:03 a.m. on October 1, 2019.

Chairman Bader proposed some changes to the minutes from September 17, 2019. Monica Mason made a motion to approve the amended minutes. Chase Green seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

APPLICATIONS:

Wendell McAfoos presented the application for 618-620 State St. He is replacing 26 windows with vinyl windows, single hung, no embedded mullions. Frames will remain. He is also replacing the drip edge and fascia.

Chase Green made a motion to accept the application. Diane Plummer seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Chase Green at this point of the meeting recused himself as commissioner.

Chase Green presented the application for 518 Beacon St. He is building an extension over the front door. It will follow the roofline. He presented rough support brackets that will be used in addition to finials.

Monica Mason made a motion to approve the application as presented. Diane Plummer seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

At this point, Chase Green returned as commissioner.

OTHER BUSINESS:

The soybean marker has been installed on Prospect between Loretto Towers and State Street.

In regards to the amended ordinance, Joshua Young addressed the commission as to the process of establishing the amendments. Mr. Young would like his own team, including one or two members of the Historic Commission, to have input in the ordinance. The commissioners have started the process of working on the amendment. Chairman Bader asked for the names of the members in Mr. Young’s group. Mr. Young did not respond, but did say that there were fourteen (14) members. Chase Green volunteered to work with Mr. Young’s group.

Monica Mason made a motion to approve of Chase Green working as a volunteer with Joshua Young’s group. Mary Anderson-Keller seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

There being no further discussion or comment from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 a.m.
