Republican House candidate Amy Elik is accusing Gov. J.B. Pritzker of not being a man of his word in his promotion of his progressive tax plan.

“There is no way the graduated income tax will not affect middle-class Illinois families and Gov. Pritkzer is flat out deceiving voters if he says otherwise,” Elik, running against incumbent state Rep. Monica Bristow (D-Alton) in the 111th District, told the Metro East Sun. “There aren't enough millionaires in Illinois to pay for what he is proposing. Democrats have proven that they can't be trusted with any more of our hard-earned tax money.”

Despite Pritzker continuing to insist only the state’s richest residents will see their tax rates increase, Elik argues a recent Illinois Policy Institute analysis that finds the tax will wipe out all the 45,000 jobs the state gained in 2019 and then some tells you everything you need to know about its trickle-down potential.

“As a CPA, I see firsthand the unfair burden Illinois' tax policies have on families and job creators,” Elik added. “The Democrats' high tax and spend agenda discourages investment in Illinois, which hurts job creation, making it harder for middle-class families to pay their bills. This is especially concerning in my district, which borders the state of Missouri. Our citizens are able to cross the bridge for goods and services at a lower rate which leaves our Metro East area vulnerable to job losses.”

Voters will finally have their say in November when they go to the polls to vote on the question of if the state Constitution should be amended to allow lawmakers the power to enact a progressive tax system.

Elik is committed to making sure they know all she thinks they need to about the tax before they pull the lever.

“The graduated income tax will cause job losses, even higher taxes and further out-migration,” she said. “I talk to voters in my district every day and they are fed up with the high taxes in Illinois. We have to stop punishing hardworking families because the Illinois Democrats fail to spend within the state's means.”
